I know they do when they are residents, so I imagine they do when they are in Med School.

When I was in med school, there was never any talk of pain management. not even in pharmacology class. Instead, what happened is the following –
All med students were required to attend a mysterious meeting at a lecture hall. We arrived to see the Dean, other professors and police officers! The chief cop gave a talk on the dangers of controlled substance medication. It was somewhat akin to a Reefer Madness film. I actually began laughing.
The standard in medicine is to withhold pain medication from as many people as possible. Even those with terminal illness and severe pain are under-treated.
