I am 24 weeks pregnant and i have a 3 year old son i had an emergancy c-section with him due to failure to progress my waters broke at 38wks with no contractons so labour was induced. This time I really want a vaginal birth but I have had little advice from my midwife or consultant. They have agreed I can try for a vbac but I have not been giving any information. I have read on the net not to be induced and stay clear of epidurals and other pain relief as they increase the risks and will lead to another c-section. Does any1 have any advice or has any1 achieved a vbac.

I couldn’t tell you the answer…but thanks for asking it…I’m 24 weeks pregnant too and looking to do a vback. The doctors haven’t told me anything…they haven’t even given me a definite if I can do it yet or not and it sure is frustrating!

I never heard that avoiding pain relief increases chances of c-section. Is that strictly v-bac advice? I had two vaginal births, the first induced and the second I went into labor on my own. Both with an epidural. I will say that not being induced was a much better experience, and I progressed much faster after my epidurals. Sorry I don’t know if having a v-bac changes everything, but I don’t see why it would. You are all healed by now and it sounds like your water breaking early was freak thing that won’t happen again. Anyway good luck!

i have never known anyone trying for a VBAC to go without pain relief, it sounds like a good idea in theory, but in reality you will need some pain relief.
have a look at this FAQ website about VBAC, it’s the best one i’ve read

I haven’t heard anything about avoiding pain medicines, but my OBGYN did tell me that I can’t be induced with this pregnancy. The labor with induction is very hard and intense and would put too much strain on the uterus. This is my 2nd pregnancy- I had an emergency c-section with my first child. I want to avoid another c-section if possible.
